Jobber Alternatives, Including the Free Ones

Search for free Jobber alternatives and you get prices that do not match what the vendors charge. Here is which ones are actually free, what the caps are, and the pricing model that decides your real bill.

Search “free Jobber alternatives” and you get prices that do not match what the vendors actually charge. Some listicles call a trial free. Others show a free plan with limits that make it unusable for a plumbing shop. Some list a tool that does not manage plumbing jobs at all.

As of September 2026, “free” means three different things here:

  1. A free trial that expires.
  2. A genuinely free tier that stays free but has hard limits.
  3. A free tool that is not job management software for a plumbing shop.

Only the second one is free forever. Even then, the cap matters.

Jobber has a free trial, not a free plan

Jobber publishes four plans on its own pricing page. Core is $49 per month with no commitment, $39 with a one year commitment, or $29 per month when prepaid annually. It includes one user.

Connect is $139, $119, or $99 under those same payment options. Grow is $199, $169, or $149 and includes five users. Plus is $499, $439, or $399 and includes 15 users. Every additional user costs $29 per month on every plan.

Jobber offers 14 days of full access to Grow features. No credit card is required. That is a trial. Jobber has no free tier.

If you are still weighing the baseline itself, what Jobber really costs a plumbing shop is worth reading before you treat any listicle price as current.

Four free tiers, four different catches

ServiceM8 has a $0 free plan on its own pricing page. It allows one user and 30 jobs per month. The free plan also lacks progress and partial invoices, asset management, forms and certificates, proposals, job costing, and markup billing.

Its paid plans have unlimited users and no per-user charge. ServiceM8’s page says “we don’t charge per user!” It lists Starter at $29 per month for 50 jobs, Growing at $79 for 150 jobs, Premium at $149 for 500 jobs, and Premium Plus at $349 for 1,500 or more jobs. SMS messages cost 10 cents each.

Zoho FSM has a free edition, limited to 30 appointments per month and up to 20 users. Its paid tiers are Standard, Professional, and Premium. Zoho prices those by monthly appointment volume, not by user. It does not publish a simple per-user price, so you have to use its calculator or talk to sales.

Odoo offers “One App Free.” One app, unlimited users, free forever. Dependent apps can come with it, and Odoo gives the example that selecting eCommerce also gets you Website and Invoicing. The catch is direct. A plumbing shop usually needs more than one app, and the moment you need a second one you are on a paid plan. Odoo lists Standard at $24.90 per user per month and Custom at $49.00 per user per month. Those are per-user prices, which changes the math once more people need access.

Connecteam has a Small Business Plan that is free for life for up to 10 users. It is workforce and team operations software, built for staff scheduling, time tracking, and communication. It is not plumbing job management with invoicing and estimates. It can be genuinely useful for a crew. It is not a replacement for what Jobber does.

These vendors offer trials, not free software

Housecall Pro offers a 14 day trial with full access to its Max plan, with no credit card needed to start. Kickserv offers a 30 day trial. Workiz offers a seven day trial with no credit card required. None of those is a free plan.

Kickserv is the sharpest example of why you check the vendor’s own page. Many “free Jobber alternative” listicles still show Kickserv with a free plan. Kickserv’s own pricing page, as of September 2026, shows no free plan at all.

It lists Start at $60 per month for five users, Run at $119 for 10 users, and Scale at $199 for 20 users. An annual subscription gets a 20% discount. Each tier includes a 30 day free trial. Kickserv also runs a Kickback program that gives a 5% discount on monthly fees when you process at least $1,000 in monthly payments on Start, $2,000 on Run, or $3,000 on Scale.

That is a paid product with a trial and a possible discount. It is not a free plan. Check the vendor’s page, not the listicle.

The user count decides what you really pay

This is the part that actually moves your bill, and it is the part the comparison posts skip.

A per-user price looks fine when you are the only person using the software. It changes when your second truck, your office person, and your bookkeeper all need access. An unlimited-user plan looks expensive on day one, then stops moving as you hire.

Here is the Jobber math. Core is $49 per month with no commitment and includes one user. Add a second tech, a third tech, and someone doing the books. That is three additional users at $29 each.

$49 plus $87 is $136 per month.

That is the cheapest Jobber plan, at four people, under the no-commitment price. If you are anywhere near that headcount question, knowing when a one-truck shop is ready for a second matters more to this decision than the sticker price does.

Housecall Pro charges per user too. Its pricing page lists Basic at $59 per month billed annually or $79 billed monthly, with one user. Essentials is $149 annually or $189 monthly, with five users. Max is $299 annually or $329 monthly, with eight users, and $35 per month for each additional user. Housecall Pro does not publish an additional-user price for Basic or Essentials, so ask rather than assuming it is also $35.

Service Fusion takes the other side. Its pricing page lists Starter at $245 per month billed monthly, Plus at $382, and Pro at $627. Annual billing is 15% off, which puts those at $208, $325, and $533 per month. All plans are month to month with no long-term contract. The page says, “No matter the plan you choose, you’ll have unlimited users.”

ServiceM8’s paid plans are unlimited users as well, priced by jobs per month instead, starting at $29 for 50 jobs.

So run the calculation with your actual headcount. Per-user vendors win at one truck. Unlimited-user vendors win once you have a crew. The crossover is not a slogan, it is a number, and it is specific to your shop.

One more split worth making. Workiz lists Standard, Pro, and Ultimate, but does not publish prices on its pricing page. You request pricing or book a demo. It advertises annual billing that saves $400 or more, and offers that seven day trial. That puts it in the same buying category as the vendor that publishes no price at all, where you cannot budget until somebody calls you back. If you are shopping this whole tier of software, the same reasoning runs through these alternatives worth looking at.

Job software does not answer a missed call

The switch usually gets decided on a weeknight. Someone closes out the week, sees the jobs that never got invoiced and the quotes nobody followed up on, decides the software is the problem, and starts a trial. Two weeks later the trial has expired, the spreadsheet is tidier, and the same calls are still going to voicemail.

None of these tools answers your phone. Job management software organizes work you already captured. If the reason you started shopping is that calls are getting missed, changing software does not fix that, because the leak is upstream of the software.

Price that separately. The real math on a receptionist versus an answering service is its own comparison, and so is what missed calls are actually costing you.

For what it is worth from our side of the table, Plumber Secretary publishes its prices too: Starter at $95 a month, Growth at $295, and Pro at $495. Bella answers around the clock, including nights, weekends, and holidays. She books the job on your calendar, flags a real emergency by text, remembers repeat customers by name, and sends you a summary of the call. If you want to judge it the honest way, call the demo line at (669) 284-5564 and listen to her take a call.

Confirm these before you sign

  1. Is this a trial, a free tier, or a free tool that does not handle plumbing jobs?
  2. What is the exact user limit, and what does each additional user cost?
  3. Is paid pricing based on users, jobs, or appointments?
  4. What are the free tier’s limits, including monthly jobs, appointments, and missing features?
  5. Get the price and billing terms in a written quote. These pricing pages change, including the ones quoted here.
  6. Price your phone coverage separately if missed calls are why you started shopping.
